Prayer Request

Please pray for Abendego,

Last week one of our field leaders named Abendego had a bad motorbike accident in which he broke his foot at his ankle.  The hospitals here do not treat broken bones.  There are no x-ray machines in our county.

We know his foot is broken because of the position his foot was in after the wreck.  The nearest x-ray machine is a long and brutal ride from our house.  We were told that they have an x-ray machine but all the hospitals in Liberia are on strike.  Liberia's medical care is a government run system.  All the doctors went on strike because none of them were being paid by the government. 

If the hospital was not on strike, they could diagnose the broken foot but they still do not know how to treat it.  They tell their patients to go see a "country doctor."  Well, the "country doctor" has been coming to our house to treat Agendego.  He made a contraption of leaves and rubbed it on Abendego's leg.  He said that he needed one chicken and some money so he could go into the bush and make "chalk" to rub on the leg.  He took the chicken and broke it's leg at the same place Abendego's leg was broke.  He did this so that he could treat the chicken and Abendego at the same time.  He would monitor Abendego's progress by comparing the speed of his recovery with that of the chicken. 

Yesterday, the "country doctor" was back.  He wanted to show me the break in the foot so he bent Abendego's foot until the bone pressed against his skin.  I am not a doctor but I know you are not sopposed to do that.  We have wrapped Agendego's foot with an ancle brace and are praying for God's healing.  There simply are no doctors in Liberia who deals with broken feet.
