Weekly Missions Update 10-16-17

Thank you for partnering with us in spreading the Gospel.  I praise the Lord for the lives that were touched last week as we serve the Lord together.  Here are a few pictures.

We are Hiring Additional Staff:
Elizabeth is a PA we interviewed last week.
We believe one of the best ways to demonstrate the love of Christ in Liberia is to sacrificially love His special needs children.  At His Safe Haven, we continually strive to improve the quality of life for our special needs children.  This month, we are seeking to add two Physician Assistances to our staff.  Their job will be to monitor the daily health of our children, administer daily medicines, oversee the practice of good hygiene among our foster moms, and to do daily therapy.  They will also travel into the bush with us to medically treat other special needs children.  Last week, we started the interviewing process.  Please pray the Lord gives us wisdom as we hire additional staff.

Johnny's Testimony:
Pastor Peter and Johnny on my front porch

Praise God for Johnny's salvation (note: Johnny's real name has been changed for his protection).  About seven months ago, Johnny gave his life to Jesus.  Johnny was raised by his uncle who is our town's muslim IMAM.  After giving his life to Jesus, we gave Johnny a small New Testament Bible and a solar powered audio Bible with headphones so he could grow in his faith while living with his uncle.  When Johnny made his faith known, his life was immediately in danger. Pastor Peter and I quickly made arrangements for Johnny to move to Monrovia to live with a Christian family.

Last week, Johnny secretly returned to Gbarnga to inform me that he had graduated from high school.  Thank you for paying for his schooling!  Please join me in praying for Johnny.  I am considering adding him to our sponsorship program and sending him to nursing school.  I have a good friend who is a pastor in Monrovia.  There is a nursing school close to his church.  Perhaps we could rent a room close to the church and send Johnny to this nursing school.  I will keep you posted as things develop.

Pray for Tita's Baby:

Tita lives in the bush, on a road that neither car nor motorbike can travel.  A few years ago, she came to Gbarnga to deliver her baby.  Tita's life tragically changed when she lost her baby during delivery and became paralyzed from the waist down due to a failed epidural.  Since that day, Tita has had a second misscarriage and is subsequently pregnant again.

A missionary friend of mine is in the process of starting a church in Tita's town.  While ministering there, he learned about Tita's condition.  Before he left for furlough, he brought the missionary community together to serve Tita. We are praying her baby will be delivered safely.  One missionary flew his helicopter into the bush and carried Tita to our hometown (Gbarnga), Tita is living at the first missionary's house while he is on furlough, and you and I get the privilege of taking care of Tita while she awaits her October 25th c-section.  Thank you for feeding Tita while paying for her c-section and medical bills. I'll send you pictures of the baby once he or she is delivered.

People you helped last week:
Left: Harrison.  Right: Cyrus
Harrison lived a wild life before he gave his life to Jesus.  One day, while drunk, Harrison passed out on Kokoyah Road and was almost hit by a car.  When he came to his senses, Cyrus led him to Christ and started discipling him.  Last year, Harrison attended our Remote Bible Institute and has been leading a Bible Study in an unchurched town since completing the Romans class.  Recently, Harrison became seriously ill.  Thank you for paying to transport Harrison to Monrovia, for medically treating his sickness, and for feeding him while he is away from home.  Please pray for Harrison's complete recovery.  He is still in Monrovia.

This is Joseph.  He is going into the eighth grade.  Thank you for paying his school fees and the school fees of numerous other children.
Thank you for buying Annie's children's school shoes.

Two days ago, Garmin's son, was admitted into our local hospital.  Please pray for his recovery.  Thank you for paying for all his treatment.
Random Pictures from Last Week:
Thursday evenings, our children invite the neighborhood kids over for games and a Bible Study.  This week, Grace taught the story of Nicodemus.
Thursday Evening: boys playing football

Thursday Evening:  Kids playing on our "sea-saw"

Thursday Evening: Girls playing jumprope.

Yes, we had four chickens running through our house this week...  I don't think I can ever ask my children if they were born in a barn... The boys enjoyed the chase.
Liberia's national elections were held last Tuesday.  Election results will be broadcast October 25th.
Sylvester is one of our special needs children.  He has been in the hospital for two days now.  He suffers from Epilepsy.  Please pray for his recovery.

Tommy loves birds.  He chose to do a class on African birds as a homeschool elective.  He is smiling because he just received his textbook.

Melanie is homeschooling our children.

The kids are listening to a Bible story before Friday night Football.
Prayer Requests:
1.  Thank you for praying for Liberia's election day.  So far things have been peaceful.  Election results will be broadcast October 25th.  Please pray things remain peaceful.
2.  Please pray that God gives us wisdom as we hire additional staff for His Safe Haven's ministry.
3.  Currently, we have four people admitted to the hospital.  Please pray for Sylvester, Don, Peter and Harrison's recovery.
4.   Please continue to pray for Kokoyah Road.  Please pray that we will see healthy churches started. Please pray the Lord gives me wisdom as I am preparing for another year of teaching.
